Privacy Policy
Fovcus does not collect or store personal data. Your vision data stays on your device. The only external processing is for purchases — via Apple App Store and RevenueCat.
Who we are
Fovcus is a personal vision journal app developed and published by Ross Cowen trading as Fovcus. The app is designed to help people living with macular degeneration and other central vision conditions record and track their visual observations using an Amsler Grid.
What data we collect
We collect no personal data. Fovcus does not require you to create an account. It does not ask for your name, email address, date of birth, or any other personal information.
All data created within the app — including your session recordings, notes, visual acuity entries, and display settings — is stored exclusively on your device using your device's local storage. This data never leaves your device, except for purchase processing (described below).
Data stored on your device
The following information is stored locally on your device only:
- Amsler Grid session recordings (strokes, displacement data)
- Session dates, notes, and visual acuity entries you choose to add
- App display settings (brightness, colour mode, text size, button size)
- Reminder preferences (frequency, time)
- Whether you have completed the onboarding flow
You can delete all of this data at any time by uninstalling the app.
In-app purchases
Fovcus offers a one-time in-app purchase to unlock full access. Purchases are processed by Apple via the App Store. We use RevenueCat to manage purchase verification and entitlements.
How this works: RevenueCat may store a non-identifiable app user ID to validate your purchase status. No personal information — such as your name, email, or payment details — is shared with RevenueCat or with Fovcus. Your payment details are handled entirely by Apple under their privacy policy.
For more information, see:
Notifications
If you enable reminders, the app will request permission to send you local notifications on your device. These notifications are generated entirely on your device and no data is transmitted externally. You can disable notifications at any time in your device settings.
Data export and backup
The app includes an optional backup feature that allows you to export your session data as a file to your device's Files app, cloud storage, or email. This export is performed entirely by you — we do not receive, store, or have access to any exported files.
The app also allows you to generate and share reports with your eye specialist. These reports are created on your device and shared directly by you — we do not receive or store any of this information.
Third-party services
Fovcus uses the following third-party services:
- RevenueCat — for purchase validation only. No personal data is shared.
- Apple App Store — for app distribution and payment processing.
We do not use any advertising networks, analytics platforms, crash reporting, or tracking tools. Your data is never sold, shared, or transferred to any other party.
Your rights (UK GDPR)
Although Fovcus collects no personal data, you have the following rights:
- Access: You can request any personal data we hold about you. As we collect none, this will be confirmed as "no data held."
- Deletion: You can delete all your data by uninstalling the app. Local data is permanently removed from your device.
- Restrict processing: As we perform no active processing, this right is not applicable.
- Lodge a complaint: If you believe your rights have been violated, contact the UK Information Commissioner's Office (ICO) at ico.org.uk.
To exercise any of these rights, or if you have any privacy question, contact Ross Cowen at
Children's privacy
Fovcus is not directed at children under 13. As the app collects no personal data from any user, this applies equally to all age groups.
Changes to this policy
If we make any changes to this privacy policy, we will update the date at the top of this page.
